This book eichard excite patrons and be long remembered. Recommended for all sikken. Crush is a vivid, fast-paced book that may be read as a single, powerful sequence.

Siken’s breathtaking debut possesses all the ingredients of poet Charles Harper Webb’s formula for great poetry: Through his powerful use of the second person, Siken reaches out to you, the reader, pulls you into his sikeen show, makes you the reluctant star. By the end of the collection, you are left feeling implicated, ridhard. With sophisticated wordplay and provocative shifts cgush first and second person, Siken expresses a frustration with earthbound details and bodily confinement.

He effectively juxtaposes holy wishes with mundane images—making them both seem beautiful by some strange lyrical alchemy—throwing love in with the sock drawer. Richard Siken writes a pulsing, rambling, surrealistic, and cinematic verse. While the language and energy and pure sensational vision of this poetry might seep into your soul like the whiskey so often invoked in these pages, you will taste the salt of blood on your tongue after you finish reading Crush —and you will never richarx at love and the comfort it promises the same way again.

Siken writes with ferocity, and his reader hurtles unstoppably with him. His poetry is confessional, gay, savage, and charged with violent eroticism. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? If you are a seller for this product, would you like to suggest updates through seller support?

In the world of American poetry, Siken’s voice is striking. They restore to poetry that sense of crucial moment and crucial utterance which may indeed be the great genius of the form. After the first few poems, I was hooked. Richard Siken writes with a sense of longing and urgency. Take this, for example: I’ve read my book numerous times now, and everytime I find something new I didn’t see before.

I saw an excerpt of several of the poems from this book on tumblr, and they really grabbed me in a way I couldn’t describe. I immediately bought the book, and I’m so glad I did. The writing and formatting are so beautiful and emotional, and the stories told within each poem are so personal and honestly I just can’t recommend this book enough. It’s great, and something that has to be experienced firsthand to really understand the power.

One person found this helpful. These poems feel like a punch to the gut in the most satisfying of ways. I read them over and over just to feel it again and and again. If you haven’t felt those things, these poems are still for you. They’ll help you understand. Favorite book, favorite collection of poems I highly, highly recommend this collection of poetry–it’s captivating, raw, and thought-provoking, and difficult to put down. This is something that you can pick up and read one poem and feel something, or read through the entire collection and see the intricacies and trains of thought that carry through each section.

This work is more than a stunning compilation of language–it truly reaches in deep and takes you along with it if you allow it. I have nothing put praise for this work, so I hope you enjoy it as well!

Books We Love: Crush, by Richard Siken

Crush is a three part collection of poetry. The first two parts are almost flawless while the third has some moments of weakness.

That said, the first two parts are so good that the third part can not detract from their power. Part One establishes several motifs that wind their way through the poems of parts two and three effectively binding them together. The mood of part one also throws the reader into a sense of claustrophobic grief and yearning that pervades the poems.

While at times difficult to read, the poems are strikingly honest and immediate.

The sexual undertone is both symbolic and explicit at once: Although the poems are often tragic they are also filled with surprising humor. When I say this it should mean laughter, not poison. The final section is the most philosophical and at times the meaning becomes opaque as in the mammoth poem “You are Jeff” it is unclear what emotional argument Siken is trying to capture with his extended metaphors. However, the final poem “Snow and Dirty Rain manages to summarize the emotional journey of the collection byy brings a sense of closure.

Siken hits several helpful notes and provides a thesis for the entire collecion: It’s not because our hearts are large, they’re not, it’s what we struggle with. I lost my copy of this book. It was loaned to a friend or got lost in the shuffle during a long year of frequent moves.

I bought a second copy and the first cruxh. I remember how I felt, seeing both on the shelf. It was something like safety. I bought the book because someone I had a crush on talked it up, but it has become something like a lifeline for me.

Whenever I forget what poems should feel like, or how much to invest in the writing of one, I pick up this book. Whenever my boyfriend says something callous or I feel like I’ve spent too ricchard time watching crap television, I pick up this book. Tell me about the dream where we pull the bodies out of the lake and dress them in warm clothes again.

Beautiful, moving, bizarre, and powerful. I’d already read a little of Siken, but this collection is perfect unto itself, just as each specific poem is the perfect collection of words. The imagery, the way they all relate even though they aren’t necessarily all related, the underlying tones of homoeroticism A true poem can be read and give you the sense that the writer has experienced exactly what you’re going through, even though he has no way to have done so, and simultaneously to know that it can apply to so many other things as well and not feel alienated by that, but comforted.

Crush is gritty, truthful, honest, but finds the beauty in that grit rather than flowering and sugarcoating how human emotions – and the human condition – can really be.
