Spool file management is a splff system administration task. Administrators have developed different techniques of associating users and their spool files with the appropriate printers and output queues.
However, using the commands doesn’t automate the process. Users may still need to move spool files from queue to queue. Why would anyone want an automated process?
Let me give you an example of a small system I established for a client that needed to make spool files reports isereis to PC-based tools. While there are a number of spool file automation products on the market, the client didn’t need all of the bells and whistles. The decision was made to develop an in-house tool.
Automating Spool File Processing
The three steps are: The client wanted this process to be automatic with no commands needed to accomplish these tasks. The starting point was determining how you know a spool file has been placed in the output queue–by using a data queue associated with the output queue. splt
So, the first step was to create the iseies queue. This is straightforward-heres an example of the command: Then an output queue was created. In the example, “lib” is the library you wish to place the output queue and the data queue. They can reside in different libraries.
